Coil Vessel/Face Jug
Requirements
- At its widest point the vessel must be a minimum of 5 inches wide but not exceed a width of 7 inches.
- The vessel must be a minimum of 7 inches high and not exceed 10 inches high.
- You can add handles or other decorative items to your pot (this is not included in the height and width requirements).
- The pot must have some variance in shape and cannot be a cylinder.
-You have 2 options for what you can make...
Option #1
Your pot can be decorative and must include a combination of at least 3 different coil types: straight, spiral, wavy, twist, fence post, etc. At least a third of your pot must have decorative visible coils. |
Option #2
Your pot can be completely smooth but must have a face and other anthropomorphic traits similar to the traditional face jugs I show in class. You must also have a handle or handles if you choose this option. Watch this video to hear about the history of the Face Jug |
Grading: 30 points
5 points: The coil vessel meets size requirements.
3 points: The coil vessel is not cylindrical and there is a couple sections where the circumference varies.
2 points: The coil pot is symmetrical or there is a clear attempt at symmetry.
10 points: Good craftsmanship, quality, and effort are apparent. Broken pieces and cracks are minimal. Score marks are not visible. Glaze did not run or stick.
5 points: There are 3 visible coil types covering at least 1/3 of your pot OR the face on your jug has good craftsmanship and details and your jug also includes handles.
2 points: Your name clearly incised on the bottom of your piece.
3 points: Questions are answered and explained when turning into google classroom.
*-3 points if your piece is late when turning into google.
5 points: The coil vessel meets size requirements.
3 points: The coil vessel is not cylindrical and there is a couple sections where the circumference varies.
