Dish Set for Two
Create a functional dish set for two composed of 2 bowls and 2 mugs. The dishes must be glazed similarly, have a unifying theme, or have similar designs and colors. The shape and style must be similar throughout your set as well. All dishes must be thrown on the wheel and trimmed.
4 functional dishes (all wheel thrown and trimmed)
2 bowls identical in shape and size and approximately 5-6 inch in diameter at the top and 2-5 inch height (salad, soup or cereal bowl size)
2 mugs with handles identical in shape and size and hold approximately 10-12 oz beverage (think of a souvenir coffee mug for size)
Grading: (44 points total)
Each bowl is worth 10 points and the point breakdown for each dish is as follows:
2 points for making and trimming the dish (must be glaze fired to receive credit)
2 points for having it approximately the correct size (see above)
2 points for glazing well (cannot stick to slab or shelf…avoid this by having a high foot
2 points for quality and craftsmanship (no cracks or chips)
2 points if dish is close to matching the other in shape size and thickness
Each mug is worth 12 points and the point breakdown is the same as above with an additional:
2 points for each handle that stays attached without pulling away from the mug and free of cracks
Additional deductions
-5 for each dish without a visible name incised in clay on the foot (pre firing)
-10 points for each dish not made (or incomplete)
-10 points for each dish completely cracked into 2 or more pieces
-5 points (off overall score) for being turned in late
-4 points for each dish that is questionable as to what it is (i.e bowls that could be mistaken for mugs, vice versa, etc.)
