Stop Motion
Objectives:
Create a stop motion video that is at least 60 second long using a minimum of 6 frames per second. Create a plot, characters, setting, and storyboard to plan out your movie. Create a minimum of 2 sculptural characters (oil based clay or mixed media) each with a minimum of 2 moving parts. Draw, paint, or construct a setting/background for your movie. Your setting/background must have a minimum of 2 three dimensional objects that must also move (for example, cotton for clouds moving in sky, paper airplane flying through sky, etc). Make sure your video has a beginning, middle and end and it not just objects moving through time (ideas listed lower on page). Consider adding a title slide, sound and credits (optional).
Grading Criteria (20 points total)
2 points: video is at least 60 seconds long (with 6fps)
4 points: 2 sculptural characters were made, each with 2 moving parts
2 points: at least one background was constructed with two 3d objects
2 points: answer and explain reflection questions when turning in
5 points: cohesive storyline with beginning, middle, and end
5 points: time and effort are apparent, classroom time was used wisely

What is Stop Motion?
Stop Motion is a kind of animation using photographs. Still pictures are pieced together and flipped through rapidly to give the illusion of a movement or time passing, creating a movie. The objects in the photos are moved in small increments for each photographed frame, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames is played as a continuous sequence. Characters and objects can be made of a variety of movable materials across backgrounds and sets or stages.
