Slab Box or Sculpture
Objectives
- Make a slab box or sculpture with a minimum of 6 walls (can have more). One side may be a lid.
- If you create a lid as a side, it must have a slab or coil lip to hold it in place
- Your piece must be approximately 5 x 5 x 5 inches (or a volume of approximately 125 inches)
- 4 of your sides must be decorated (the same technique may be used for all sides if you like) using one of following decorative techniques (applique, carving, piercing, impressing, and/or sgraffito)
Grading: 25 points
5 points: 6 or more walls are used and the piece meets the size requirements
5 points: A minimum of 4 walls have a decorative technique used with obvious time and effort put forth
5 points: All corners and seems and blended and there is little sagging and warping of walls
7 points: Time and effort and apparent in design, construction, and glazing and/or painting
2 points: self-reflection complete with answers explained thoughtfully
1 point: name incised into bottom of piece before firing
