Nesting Dolls
Create a set of 4 nesting dolls. 3 dolls must open but the bottom one can be solid (if it is small enough). Each doll must be incrementally increasing in size and fit inside the larger. The shape may be traditional or something more original and unique to your design. The dolls may all have identical designs or each can be different (with similar shapes) with an overarching theme. Each doll must have some details made with clay with the decorative method of your choosing. They must fit together using a flange and gallery lid (see below). Flange must be on bottom half of doll. You must account for shrinkage in the clay to ensure they fit after firing (especially if glazing).
Grading: (35 points total)
Smallest doll: 3 points
Reflection questions: 2 points
Each opening doll is worth 10 points and the breakdown for each is as follows:
2 points for a good fit, the top fitting on the bottom
2 points for having a flange and gallery lid (flange on bottom half of doll)
4 points for fitting inside larger and/or smaller doll (top and bottom must both fit inside the nest doll)
2 points: quality and craftsmanship of construction, clay details, and paint/glaze
